QPS and Amorfix to collaborate on Alzheimer's Disease Project

QPS acquires JSW Life Sciences, largest independent Contract Research Organisation in Austria

August 29, 2012; Newark, Delaware, USA and Grambach, Austria; QPS, LLC, a leading full-service GLP/GCP-compliant contract research organization providing testing services to support preclinical and clinical research and development, announced the acquisition of a majority interest in JSW Life Sciences GmbH. JSW provides preclinical and clinical Phase II – IV drug development services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies worldwide, and will be known as QPS JSW.

Being the third institution in Austria, JSW Life Sciences received full accreditation from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International off the cuff without further requirements.
AAALAC International is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs. Today, more than 840 organizations (i.e. companies, universities, hospitals, government agencies and other research institutions) in 33 countries have earned AAALAC accreditation, demonstrating their commitment to responsible animal care and use.
The Council on Accreditation of the AAALAC commends JSW Life Sciences for providing and maintaining an excellent program of laboratory animal care and use. Especially noteworthy they found the strong institutional commitment to the program as well as the investments in building and infrastructure, the well managed and clean facility.
The AAALAC accreditation concertedly with the GLP certification for all of our labs since more than a decade underlines the high quality standards at JSW Life Sciences.

Winner of the Styrian Fast Forward Award 2011

JSW Life Sciences GmbH mit „ Neue Zellkulturen als Tierversuchsersatz in der Pharmaforschung“

Das Unternehmen beschäftigt sich hauptsächlich mit der Entwicklung von Arzneimitteln zur Behandlung von Alzheimer und Parkinson. Bevor ein Arzneimittel am Menschen getestet wird, müssen Wirkungen im Rahmen von Tierversuchen oder anhand von Zellkulturen nachgewiesen werden, wobei die Nutzung von Tierversuchen aufgrund von ethnischen und monetären Gründen sinkt. Das neu entwickelte Zellkulturenmodell weist eine große Vergleichbarkeit mit den tatsächlich vorhandenen Bedingungen im Gehirn des an Alzheimer oder Parkinson erkrankten Menschen auf und unterscheidet sich so von anderen Modellen. Mit dem Modell steigt die Wahrscheinlichkeit die richtigen Substanzen für eine Weiterentwicklung des Arzneimittels zu selektieren und die Entwicklungszeiten von Arzneimitteln zu verkürzen. Das Modell steht kurz vor der Markteinführung.

JSW Life Sciences GmbH with „ New cell cultures as an alternative to animal experiments in drug discovery and development“

The company is principally involved in drug development for treatment of Alzheimer and Parkinson disease. Before a new drug is tested in humans, it´s effects have to be proven in animal tests or cell cultures, although tests with living animals become less because of moral and monetary reasons. The new developed cell culture model shows significant comparability with existing conditions of an Alzheimer or Parkinson effected human brain and therefore differs from other models. With this new model the probability of selecting the right substances for the ongoing drug development rises, by the chance of reducing the developing period. The model is soon to be published.
